<\/i><\/i><\/span>I am a new candidate to your site. How should I proceed?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
Once you have found a job you wish to apply for, please attach the following documents in MS Word format to the job application form.\u00a0 In today\u2019s electronic world, almost all of our clients prefer electronic resumes.\u00a0 However, if you do not have access to e-mail, please mail your documents to our office at the address listed on the Contact Us page.<\/p>\n

\n\u00b7\u00a0Cover Letter<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Include your career and geographic preferences, salary requirements, and any other accomplishments or personal information that will allow us to better assist you in your career search.

<\/i><\/i><\/span>I am a new client to your site. How should I proceed?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
We value our existing client business relationships and always enjoy teaming up with new clients who need quality employees to round out their team.\u00a0 Whether you are adding a new position or replacing a vacant one, we encourage you to contact us via phone or email.\u00a0 We will put you in touch with the Professional Ag Recruiter on our team who has the experience and background to best serve you.\u00a0 The recruiter will gather information about your company and the position, publicize the opening, search our existing database, and also look elsewhere for viable candidates for your position.\u00a0 We will complete the reference checks for qualified candidates and then forward their information to you.\u00a0 Should you desire to interview a candidate, we will then make the arrangements for the interview(s) at a time that fits your schedule.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span> How long should my resume be?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
In general, for those who are new college grads or who have been in their career for five years or less, we recommend one page.\u00a0 For those who have been in their career for 5-15 years, two pages.\u00a0 And, for those who have been in their career for 15+ years, a three-page resume is acceptable.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span> How many and what type of references should I send?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
Our preference is to have four references from each candidate, and for the most part, those references should be \u2018professional references\u2019 \u2013 people you have worked with in the past.\u00a0 The best references are those whom you have worked directly for (your direct supervisor, boss, project manager, etc.), those whom you have worked directly with (co-worker, project members, clients, etc), and those who have worked for you (subordinates, team members, etc.).<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>What is the most important information to have on my resume?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
Relevant experience.\u00a0 For whatever type of positions you are interested in, make sure your resume reflects ANY experience you have had that would make you a good candidate for a particular job.\u00a0 For example, if a candidate has been a grain elevator manager, he or she might have equal experiences in both grain merchandising and grain operations.\u00a0 If you\u2019re interested in merchandising positions, make sure that your resume heavily emphasizes your experiences and accomplishments in this area.\u00a0 Yes, if you are interested in applying for several types of positions, this does mean that you may have multiple versions of your resume; however, you are marketing yourself to employers, and candidates that go to this extra effort get better results.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>I landed an interview\u2026what should I wear?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
In general, we recommend \u201cone step above\u201d what they tell you to wear.\u00a0 Remember, you\u2019re marketing yourself; so, going the extra step never hurts.\u00a0 If they tell you to wear jeans, consider dressing business casual.\u00a0 If they say the interview is business casual, consider slacks and a jacket.\u00a0 Remember, though, this is a general rule and there are exceptions.\u00a0 Also remember, it never hurts to throw jeans and a pair of boots into your vehicle to take to the interview in case you end up touring barns or fields.\u00a0 It shows you\u2019re prepared.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>I landed an interview\u2026how can I prepare for it?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
First, research the company, it\u2019s operations, and it\u2019s personnel if that\u2019s possible.\u00a0 Come up with a list of questions to ask during the interview.\u00a0 Second, google \u201cinterview questions\u201d and begin preparing mentally for questions you might get asked.\u00a0 Interviewers like to ask \u201cbehavioral questions.\u201d\u00a0 These questions usually begin with phrases like \u201cTell us about a time\u2026\u201d, \u201cDescribe a time or situation\u2026\u201d, or \u201c\u201dGive me an example\u2026\u201d.\u00a0 Do a little research on answering this type of question using the \u2018STAR\u2019 method.\u00a0 This will help you keep your answers concise and organized.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>I landed an interview\u2026what should I bring?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
First, bring at least one copy of your resume\u2026perhaps a few copies.\u00a0 Second, questions.\u00a0 Even if you know everything there is to know about a company and its operations, have several prepared questions for the interviewers.\u00a0 Those that don\u2019t ask questions come across to employers as uninterested in the opportunity.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>The interview is over. Is it OK to send a thank-you by email?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
Yes, for the most part, in today\u2019s business culture it is acceptable to send a thank-you by email if the interviewers gave you their business cards.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Is there anything else I can do to portray myself positively and professionally during the interview process?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

  1. Call employers back promptly (same business day) after they\u2019ve left a message.<\/li>\n
  2. Update your voicemail greeting to a simple, professional message.\u00a0 Do not use songs as ringtones during the\u00a0interview process.<\/li>\n
  3. Do not have your mother call an employer regarding a position.<\/li>\n
  4. Update your \u201cFacebook\u201d and social media pages to reflect yourself in a positive and professional way.<\/li>\n
  5. Don\u2019t wear flip-flops to an interview.<\/li>\n
  6. Don\u2019t drink alcohol before an interview.<\/li>\n
  7. Don\u2019t chew during the interview\u2026tobacco OR gum.<\/li>\n
  8. Don\u2019t be late, and don\u2019t be extremely early.\u00a0 Fifteen minutes early is considered perfect timing.<\/li>\n
  9. Don\u2019t say \u201cI Don\u2019t Know\u201d when asked about career wants.<\/li>\n
  10. Avoid bringing a significant other to the
